C.S. Lewis for Lent

By Garry Friesen April 6th, 2007

Dear Family & Friends,

My mother is in heaven, but her words are not forgotten. “Son, that was a fine sermon, but just a bit too long.” and “Garry, that was a good prayer today, but a little too long.” To my 450 page book Decision Making? “Son, you wrote an excellent book, but it was way too long.” Well, it comes too late to please my beloved mom, but I just sent in my essay for a book called Three Views on Decision Making and the Will of God. The other authors are Gordon Smith, mission director from Canada, and Richard & Henry Blackaby, known for the best selling book, Experiencing God. I was limited to 70 pages which should please mom, but it almost drove me crazy. After our three essays are edited, we will each write a response to the other two authors. We plan to give a seminar debate at the national Evangelical Theological Society, Nov. 2007. My writing partner, Robin Maxson, helped edit my essay. We had to cut ten pages before it was submitted. I agreed to excise a C.S. Lewis illustration. Robin was proud of me and said, “Consider that a significant sacrifice for Lent.” With Lent covered, I’m ready for Easter.

    Garry,
“Decision Making” has been one of the most influential books I’ve read and I’m glad to see your ideas getting some wider exposure - both through the new book and through the upcoming conference. Have a blessed Easter!
